Processing Approaches to Cognition
The brain plays an important role in cognitive function. This is according to a research carried out by neuroscientists. First, cognitive functions help in speech synthesis. Speech synthesis helps in learning. There are certain cells in the brain in that help in speech synthesis. Cognitive research has shown that the brain can affect speech synthesis in different way.
For example, the brain affects speech synthesis if the brain cells are damaged during an accident. This makes it difficult for the brain cells to perform their functions. In addition, the brain plays a crucial role in learning and memory. Learning and memory have become major issues in the society.
Elderly people have lost their memory due to old age. The cognitive discoveries have shown that memory and learning are affected negatively if the brain cells are injured. Brain cells transmit chemicals that help transmit signals from one part of the brain to another. The cells transmit signals from one part of the brain to another. The transmission of signals from one part of the brain to another is affected by brain damage.
Also, the brain transmission of signals is affected when the brain cells die. In elderly people, the neurons do not transmit signals as the brain cells are worn out or dead. Children having neurological disorders have difficulties in learning. The children find it difficulty to learn. This is because the cells responsible for learning have been affected by the disorders. Also, the children have memory problems. Children having memory problems perform poorly in class (Roediger, 2002).
The brain helps in problem solving and emotion development. The brain contributes a lot in development t of emotions and control of emotions. The brain cells help people manage their emotions. This makes it easy for people to relate with other people. Emotions are affected when the brain cells are damaged. This forces people to behave abnormally. It also helps people solve financial problems (Roediger, 2002).
The cognitive discoveries have affected the practice of psychology in different ways. First, the cognitive psychology has changed how psychologists handle client. Psychologists are supposed to handle clients well and prevent any biasness. Second, cognitive discoveries have influenced psychological therapies. Psychologists are supposed to design psychological therapies according to the needs of the client.
Currently, psychological therapies are not developed according to the needs of the client. The cognitive discoveries have helped improve psychological therapies. This has affected the outcome of psychological therapies. The cognitive discoveries have provided enough information to assist psychologists in their work. They provide a wide range of information as shown above. Psychologists are supposed to observe clients behavior and develop therapies that suit client’s needs (Roediger, 2002).
The cognitive discoveries have various strengths and weaknesses. The cognitive discoveries have provided useful information that can be used in psychological practices. The cognitive discoveries are well developed. The author has organized his work well. For example, the author has outlined how the brain affects cognitive functions and how psychologists can overcome cognitive problems.
Psychologists can help old people and other people regain their cognitive functions. This makes it easy for people to benefit from the cognitive functions. For example, psychologists can help clients overcome behavioral problems. They are supposed to identify strategies to use so as to overcome behavioral problems. The cognitive discoveries have several weaknesses. The discoveries do not provide adequate information to be used by the psychologists (Roediger, 2002).
