Applications and Issues in Ability Testing Demographic
Intelligence testing is the examination of a person’s ability to solve problems, understand social customs values and norms and the ability to analyze situations. Intelligence testing has been used for ruling –out or confirming the presence pf mental disability as well as how to diagnose the challenges one is experiencing in learning. The information found from intelligence testing should take the approach of problem solving and proper interpretation of findings. In psychometrics, the static used is the g factor. where g means general intelligence which shows the underlying results of the mental ability after various tests have been carried out (Aiken, & Groth-Marnat, 2006, pp 135).
The major debate about the idea of the g is whether it is forms of statistical average or the actual thing for results testing. There are various biological correlates of the g. Intelligence testing conducted in the US has shown different variations among race groups. In terms of races the African American average score for intelligence is much lower than the Asian American population which is also higher than the population of the White American. A research used to establish the correlate of race and intelligence should be socially important and scientifically valid. Racial difference in the study of intelligence can be determined by genetic consideration and social origin. The research of intelligence across races has been criticized for its methods of test in the studied groups while other scholars refute the whole idea of race since it is not a scientific concept but a term to address social concerns (Aiken, & Groth-Marnat, 2006, pp 145)
